Four members of the West Indies team, including three cricketers, tested positive for corona on arrival in Pakistan. As a result, they will not be in the T20 series starting from Monday. However, the West Indies will continue the tour.
Left-arm pacer Sheldon Cottrell, all-rounder Roston Chase and Kyle Meyers, along with one of the team management, have come out positive. That person from the team management is not a member of the coaching staff. The four have taken a “complete dose” of the corona ticker, with no major symptoms, Cricket Windies said.
However, the positive of these four came while they were in room quarantine. Cricket West Indies chief executive Johnny Grave said: “Our preparations are in jeopardy. However, we are confident that we will continue this tour as everyone else’s PCR test has been negative twice before and after our arrival in Pakistan. Since the Caribbean Premier League, almost all of our players have been in the biosecurity zone, but it has become impossible to escape the Covid-19.
“It simply came to our notice then. We will start training from today before tomorrow’s match, “added Graves. Cricket West Indies said in a statement that for the time being, all four coroners who have tested positive for corona will be under the care of team doctor Akashi Mansingh. They will have to stay in isolation for 10 days before coming negative in PCR test.
However, Kieron Pollard, the regular limited overs captain of the West Indies, has not been ruled out of the tour due to injury. Nicholas Puran will lead in his place. On the other hand, all-rounder Andre Russell is playing in the Big Bash League. As a result, West Indies will become a little weaker after losing Chase, Cutrell and Meyers.
The West Indies arrived in Pakistan on December 9 to play three ODIs and a T20. This is the first time an international boys team has toured Pakistan since the tour of New Zealand and England was canceled due to security concerns ahead of the T20 World Cup.
After three T20s on 13-16 December, three ODIs will be on 16-20 December. All the matches will be in Karachi.
