Ramiz Raja has called for change after becoming the president of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The new president also suggested that board officials drink less tea to reduce costs. There was a lot of laughter about Ramiz’s offer not to have more than a cup of tea to ensure that the cricketers perform well on the field. However, the decisions taken by Ramiz in the cricket field are giving hope to the fans.
PCB wants to appoint a power hitting coach for the national team. Besides, Ramiz wants to appoint five more coaches for the hyperperformance unit. In this regard, the national team captains and coaches prefer foreign coaches. But Ramiz wants to use his compatriots.
In addition to head coach Saqlain Mushtaq, two former cricketers were with the Pakistan team as consultants in the T20 World Cup. Matthew Hayden was the batting consultant. Vernon Philander was the bowling coach. Hayden’s role in Pakistan ended after the World Cup. Seeing the success of the World Cup, Babar Azam, wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan and Mushtaq wanted a permanent foreign coach.
In a video message from Cricket Pakistan, Ramiz Raja wished a Happy New Year. “I have talked to Babar, Saqlain and Rizwan,” said Ramiz. And they have voted in favor of appointing foreign coaches in the dressing room of the national team. But I am very open about it. In my opinion, local coaches should also be included in the tour. It is important to have a permanent coach to keep the dressing room in good condition. ‘
Pakistan has not appointed a new coach for the Bangladesh and West Indies series. Ramiz explains his reason behind this. “I wanted to see if the players could stand on their own two feet, if they could think for themselves,” he said. If one cannot survive in difficult situations without cooperation, one cannot be extraordinary. ‘
The PCB chairman further added that it was the aim to not involve so many technical coaches during the Bangladesh and West Indies series. He reckoned that he wanted to see how the players stand on their own feet with their own thinking.
“I wanted to see how they can stand on their feet with their own thinking. One can’t have any idea of greatness when he can’t grind in the difficult situation without any support,” he added.
Previously the PCB had revealed the criteria for appointing the five coaches. “The High-Performance coach should have a minimum of five years working experience over the past 10 years, including as a life coach for elite sportspersons and/or national or international teams,” the PCB was quoted as saying in a statement.
