A magnitude 7.5 earthquake has shaken Peru. The quake’s epicenter was reported 42 kilometers (25 miles) from the Peruvian city of Baransa on Sunday morning, according to the US Geological Survey.

Initially, there were no reports of injuries or severe damage. The quake affected Lima, the capital of Peru.

The depth of the earthquake was 112.5 km (60 miles). The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center said in a tweet that the area under the Amazon Evergreen Forest had a small population.

The US Tsunami Warning Department said in a statement that the epicenter was reported below the ground, however; no tsunami alert was issued.
