The Seram Institute of India, one of the world’s leading vaccine manufacturers, has reportedly halved corona vaccine production. The company has decided that there is no purchase order.
Adar Punewala, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Serum Institute of India, which produces AstraZeneca vaccines, said they still have 500 million doses of vaccines in stock.
About 90 per cent of the 1.3 billion dose vaccines given in India so far are cov shields produced by serum. The corona vaccination program started in India last January. Since then, half of the country’s adult population has received the full dose of the vaccine.
Adar Punewala said, ‘I am in a dilemma that I never imagined. We are producing 250 million doses of Covishield vaccine per month. But the good news is that most people in India have been vaccinated. The order we received from the Ministry of Health will be fulfilled within a week.
“We have no more orders,” Punewala told CNBC-TV18. So I am going to reduce the production of vaccines by at least 50 per cent on a monthly basis until there are orders from India and the rest of the world. ‘ It may increase after the first three months of the year. ‘
Meanwhile, 75 percent of Indians have been vaccinated with one dose of coronavirus. Millions more in the country will receive a second dose of the corona vaccine.
