Seminar on BUET to create awareness about breast cancer
Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar for BUET Students was organized by BUET Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES).
The seminar was held at BUET Auditorium on Thursday morning in collaboration with Bangladesh Cancer Awareness Foundation.
Navneeta Islam, a former student of BUET who has recovered from breast cancer, was present on the occasion, the release said. Masumul Haque, Founder and General Secretary of Bangladesh Cancer Awareness Foundation conducted the workshop. BUET BMES Advisor Muhammad Tariq Arafat spoke on the occasion.
He outlined the objectives of the BUET BMES Student Chapter and the subsequent important activities of the chapter.
Muhammad Tariq Arafat said a self-sufficient health sector is needed to eradicate incurable diseases like cancer, which is possible with the combined efforts of biomedical engineers and doctors.
According to the press release, many of the women who died of cancer died of breast cancer. With early detection of cancer and proper treatment at the right time, recovery is possible. Women in conservative families usually do not want to tell anyone about the disease out of inertia. It is necessary to take measures for healing in the initial stage by overcoming inertia. The workshop and seminar was organized by BUET BMES for the first time at BUET to break the silence on breast cancer.
Masumul Haque gave the students a detailed idea about the early signs of cancer, ways of screening, healthy living. After being diagnosed with cancer while pursuing a PhD, Navnita Islam told inspiring stories on how to deal with cancer both physically and mentally.
At one stage of the program, quiz competitions were organized for the participants and prizes were distributed at the end of the program.
