Railway authorities have set up a committee to probe into the collision of three vehicles with a Demu train at Jhautala Rail Crossing area in Chittagong city. A five-member committee was formed on Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the day, Railway Police also formed a three-member committee on the same incident. At around 11 am on Saturday, an iron bar was thrown on one side of Jhautla rail gate on Zakir Hossain Road in Chittagong city. CNG-powered autorickshaws and tempos were parked on one side as the gate was open on one side. As the train crossed the railgate, a speeding bus coming from the GEC junction hit a standing autorickshaw and a tempo and crashed into the train. Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera footage showed such a scene. The Demu train from Nazirhat was heading towards Chittagong station.
Three people lost their lives in this accident. Monir Hossain, 49, a member of the traffic police, was killed in an accident while trying to stop the vehicles there. HSC examinee Sadraj Uddin and engineer Syed Bahauddin died. At least six people were injured in the accident. They are undergoing treatment in different wards of Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
According to railway sources, the committee formed by the Eastern Railway has been made the head of the Assistant Transport Officer. Moniruzzaman. The other four members of the committee are Assistant Commandant Satyajit Das, Assistant Engineer. Faruk Hossain, Assistant Mechanical Engineer Bazlur Rahman and Assistant Surgeon Shibu Nath.
