A new strain of coronavirus has been identified in South Africa. This new species is capable of repeated genetic modification. Scientists fear that this type of corona infection may spread again.
Scientists in South Africa on Thursday announced the discovery of a new type of corona. At least 22 new cases have already been identified in South Africa, according to the country’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD). This type of corona has even been found in the bodies of travelers from South Africa to Botswana and Hong Kong.
Initially it was given scientific name B.1.1.529. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) gives Greek names (such as Delta, Gamma, Beta, etc.) to the types of corona that have spread around the world. Today, the company may be giving a new Greek name.
“Unfortunately we have found a new type of corona,” South African virologist Tulio de Oliveira told a news conference on Thursday. This is very worrying news for South Africa. As a result, the number of corona infections may increase rapidly.
The WHO said it was closely monitoring the spread of the new corona. The company’s experts are sitting in a meeting on Friday to estimate the extent of the danger.
“This is a matter of great concern,” said South African Health Minister Joe Fahla. Coronavirus infection is on the rise in South Africa. If a new strain of the virus is introduced, it may increase the risk.
