At least three people have been killed and 11 others injured in an attack on a police bus in Indian-controlled Kashmir. The attack took place near a police camp in the Jiwan area of Srinagar, Kashmir, NDTV reported. One person was killed during the operation. Police say the man is a terrorist.
The attack took place on Monday. Two policemen were killed that night. Then another member of the police died on Tuesday morning.
The area where the attack targeted police vehicles is considered a relatively safe area. The area is being searched after the attack.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the attack. He also wanted to know the details of the attack.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti also expressed their condolences to the families of the victims. Abdullah also condemned the attack.
Meanwhile, the news agency Reuters reported that the police launched a counter attack today due to the attack. One person was killed in the attack. Police said the man was thought to be a “terrorist”. Police conducted the operation in Punch district today. An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “One terrorist was killed in our operation.” Seven members of the Indian Army have been killed in the area this year.
