North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has visited a city built in the country. The news agency Reuters reported this information.
The new city is being built near the Chinese border, North Korean state media reported on Tuesday. This is Kim Jong-un’s first public appearance in over a month.
The northern city of Samjian in North Korea is being transformed into a major economic hub. Officials in the country are calling the new city a “socialist utopia.”
The city is furnished with commercial, cultural and medical facilities, including new apartments, hotels and ski resorts.
The new town is located near Mount Paiktur. Kim Jong-un’s family considers it a sacred mountain. The roots of this family are claimed to be here. Kim Jong-un has visited the mountain more than once since 2016. The country’s state media has been calling it a symbol of modern civilization.
Exactly when Kim Jong-un visited the new city did not specify a date, according to North Korean state media KCNA.
However, this is the first time in more than a month that Kim Jong-un has been seen taking part in a public event. He last spoke at a defense exhibition in the country. This is the first time since 2014 that he has been seen in such a long time.
According to KCNA, Kim Jong-un will visit the third and final phase of the new city construction project. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Work on the project would have been completed earlier, but construction was delayed due to the international sanctions on North Korea as well as the Corona epidemic.
