Nadia’s Hanskhali police officials said that a group of cremators was going to Nadia’s Navadwip crematorium from Bagda area of ​​North 24 Parganas in a hearse last night. The driver of the hearse lost control in Phulbari area of ​​Hanskhali in Nadia. The car hit a lorry laden with stones parked on the road. It caused casualties.
At least 18 people died on the spot in the accident. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Locals say the hearse was hit by reckless speed and heavy fog.

Police have started investigation into the cause of the accident.
