TikTok has become a phenomenon with more than 2 billion downloads globally and consolidated apps like Instagram or YouTube are already undergoing a migration of users to this platform. Therefore, they are trying to assimilate some of their functions to retain them. Google’s video portal, for example, has started a beta phase of a basic tool in the Chinese app. From now on, some users can record clips of only 15 seconds and edit them to be published.
Through the app, YouTube allows you to record just by pressing a button, being able to join and paste clips with a duration of only 15 seconds. YouTube says its new video test is running with a small group of creators on both iOS and Android. A company spokesperson noted that it was one of several tests the company had in the works around the short-form video.
At the moment, the company has not announced whether it will include the functions of filters, effects, music and extras, but, if this phase is successful, it will undoubtedly do so to fight with TikTok. In 2017, the company launched an alternative to Instagram Stories , designed for the creation and sharing of more casual videos.
