The much-awaited dark mode in the instant messaging app WhatsApp is finally ready for release. However, the Facebook-owned company is yet to announce a release date but the feature is ready for some users who are using the Android Beta version. WhatsApp has been testing the dark theme for months on the beta version to iron out possible bugs. There are several reasons why users are eagerly for the dark mode. The dark theme comes with a new look as it features a dark grey background. It highlights the text in white color and makes it easier to look at for long. The darker screen also means it will consume less power.
WhatsApp recently released a beta update, bringing three new options for dark mode. The dark theme enables dark mode. The light theme offers a white background. The light theme is a lighter version of the dark theme. The third is ‘Set by Battery Saver’. The dark mode will be activated only when the smartphone’s battery level drops below a certain level. The third option is, however, available only for smartphones running on Android 9.0 or older. Apart from the dark mode, the latest beta update also introduced new skins for six emojis. Besides, it moved the wallpaper option to the display from the settings of the chat.
WhatsApp is also testing the iOS dark theme and is all set for release. The feature will be available to iPhone users on iOS 13. Reports suggest the icons in dark mode are in blue and grey color schemes. Besides dark mode, the messaging app is also testing a new beta update for iOS. It will bring features like splash screen, app badge improvements, and others. The splash screen will let users see the WhatsApp logo whenever they open the application. This feature is also available on the Android beta app. The popular messaging app recently added a new privacy setting. It allows users to decide whether they want to join a group.
