Florida reported a record increase of over 15,000 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours on Sunday, as the Trump administration renewed its push for schools to reopen, and anti-mask protests in Michigan and Missouri were planned. If Florida were a country, according to a Reuters analysis, it would rank fourth in the world for the most recent cases in a day behind the United States, Brazil and India.
The daily rises in Florida in cases have already exceeded the highest daily tally reported by any European country during the height of the pandemic there. It has also broken the record of 12,847 new cases in New York state on April 10 when it was the epicenter of the outbreak in the United States. The latest rise was reported one day after the reopening of Walt Disney World in Orlando with a limited number of guests who were greeted with a host of safety measures including masks and temperature controls.
Coronavirus infections are on the rise in about 40 states compared with the previous two weeks, according to a Reuters case analysis. Nationally, according to a Reuters tally, the United States has broken global records by registering around 60,000 new cases a day in a row over the last four days. In Arizona , California, Flo, too, hospitalizations and positive test rates are rising. Florida reported a record amount of testing, with almost 143,000 announced results on Sunday compared to an average of 68,000 for the previous seven days.
