Instagram and Facebook sister company are testing Instagram Reels in India which allows users to create short videos in 15 seconds. The app serves the same function as TikTok, the Chinese video-making app, which was recently banned with 58 other devices in India. “We intend to start testing a new edition of Reels in more countries. Reels is a fun, imaginative way for people to express themselves and to be entertained, “a spokesperson for Facebook told Business Insider.
“We ‘re excited to make this latest edition accessible to more of our global community. No additional plans to share for now on the launch date or in countries, “he added. After TikTok ‘s ban, there has been a huge increase in downloads of homegrown video-making apps like Chingari and Roposso. TikTok, which had more than 200 million users in India, was highly popular with young people as well as non-metro users.
Now, via Reels, Instagram plans to offer some comfort to TikTok users and there couldn’t be a better time to launch it to Indian users. As of now, Reels is available to select users in India. Reels is similar to TikTok as it enables its users to create short 15-second video clips with different editing software and special effects. Through access to a large library of video songs and more, users will be able to make matching lip-synced video clips. As part of the Instagram app, Reels will be available and will have its own feed for other users to explore content produced by an person. These videos will gain attention via public feeds.
