10 Best Halloween Movies in 2022 to Start Your Horror Movie Marathon

Entertainment

The time of year for ghost stories and scary movies is here. Some people think of trick-or-treating, spooky decorations and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” when Halloween comes around, but others think of bloody horror movies and jump scares.

Many people celebrate Halloween on October 1 or even earlier and keep going until the end of Halloween night. This gives them plenty of time to watch as many scary movies as possible.

During the scariest month of the year, you might want to stay in some nights and watch a scary movie with serial killers, ghosts or famous people like Dracula, Michael Myers, Frankenstein, or Casper the Friendly Ghost. (All right, maybe not the last one.)

There’s no better time than now to use your Amazon Prime, Disney+, Hulu, HBOMax and Netflix accounts. Who needs to go to a Halloween party when you can watch a scary (or not-so-scary) movie?

Whether you like sequels like A Quiet Place Part II or old favorites like Beetlejuice with Winona Ryder, there’s a scary or at least creepy movie that would be great for a Halloween movie marathon.

Here’s a list of old, new and specialized movies you can watch this year:

Hocus Pocus

This classic was made by Walt Disney in 1993 and some people think it’s the best Halloween movie ever. but that might just be the old memories talking.

Three witches, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, are brought back to life by accident by kids in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween. To stop the witches from becoming immortal, the teens must work together.

Before the sequel on Disney+ on September 30, 2022 you should watch this movie again.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Is it a movie about Christmas or Halloween? Tim Burton’s stop-motion movie from 1993 has been the subject of much debate, but it’s always fun to watch.

Two different worlds meet when the main character Jack Skellington opens a door between Halloween Town and Christmas Town. The skeleton loves Christmas and wants all his dark and gloomy friends to feel the same way.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

If you like slasher movies, this one is a must-see. Horror fans’ dreams come true when Freddy Krueger gets his first big role and what its characters’ worst nightmares are made of.

This is one of the few times when the remake (made in 2010 and starring Katie Cassidy) is just as good as the original (made in 1984 and starring Johnny Depp).

Sleepy Hollow

In this scary movie from 1999, Depp plays the role of Ichabod Crane. This movie doesn’t follow the usual rules of scary movies. Instead, it mixes blood and scares with an exciting love story.

Still When Harry Met Sally fans should be careful because the Headless Horseman and all of his Dutch-hamlet glory bring a lot of blood, blood and more blood. This is a great movie to watch with friends, especially if you have a date.

Edward Scissorhands

If you want to have a Depp-o-ween marathon, you can’t forget his iconic role as the title character in this horror fantasy movie from 1990. The main character is a humanoid who was born without hands.

He was made by a mad scientist in the style of Frankenstein and a suburban family took him in.

Scream

This classic film from 1996 is a lot of fun for people who like scary movies. When the sociopathic person known as Ghostface starts following a group of teenagers, this not-so-quiet little town goes crazy.

Wes Craven, who made Nightmare on Elm Street, is known as one of the most critical voices in the horror genre. In Scream, he uses humor, scares and new takes on slasher movie tropes to make an instant classic.

Paranormal Activity

If horror fans haven’t seen this popular film that changed the horror genre, they can’t call themselves fans. The documentary-style approach kept people on the edge of their seats and made the found-footage film genre famous again, almost a decade after The Blair Witch Project made magic on the big screen.

Because Paranormal Activity was so popular, it didn’t take long to make more of it. As of 2022, there have been seven movies and more are coming. After watching this movie’s creepy crawlies, it will take people at least a week to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Ghostbusters

Who will you call for a scary comedy that is good for the whole family?  Ghostbusters! This 1984 favorite stars Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd as ghost hunters. This is one of Murray’s best-known roles.

Ghostbusters is still one of the most famous Halloween movies and people who can’t get enough of it can watch remakes and sequels.

Get Out

Get Out, which won an Oscar was Jordan Peele’s first movie as a director who changed the game. Since then, he has made more hits like Nope and Us.

It would be a shame to ruin even a second of this movie from 2017, so don’t read any plot summaries. Just know that this movie has a lot of psychological and creepy stuff. It has more parts than an onion and its heavy metaphors are just as likely to make people cry.

The Conjuring

Many people went to see this seemingly ordinary horror movie thinking it would be the same old story, but The Conjuring took the haunted house trope to an entirely new level. Like all great horror stories, this one is based on a true story, so people might want to sleep with the lights on after seeing it.

Final Lines

Disappointed that your top pick wasn’t included? Not every Halloween staple could be included (John Carpenter’s Halloween wasn’t even mentioned), but this is a beautiful place to start. You can spend all of October watching horror films featuring Jamie Lee Curtis if you need more to watch. For more such updates do follow us only on Lee Daily.
