At least 29 people have been killed after a boat capsized on a river in Nigeria’s northern state of Kano. Among them are students of the school.
According to the BBC, the incident took place when the students of a school were on their way to a religious function. The age of the slain students is 8 to 12 years.
There were more than 50 passengers in the boat. They were on their way to the nearby town of Bagawi from a village called Badau. Police say seven people were rescued and taken to hospital.
The cause of the sinking is not yet known. However, in previous accidents, issues such as overcrowding and negligence in maintenance were blamed.
