Reuters has described the incident of a South Korean citizen going to North Korea as a rare departure.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said a man was spotted on the eastern side of the demilitarized zone (DMZ) separating the two Koreas around 9:20 pm local time on Saturday. Then they started a search operation.

We are confirming that the man crossed the military border into North Korea around 10:40 pm on Saturday,” the JCS said in a statement.
